16th EABRN Meeting

According to EABRN’s established principle of rotation, the possibility of holding the 16th meeting of the EABRN in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) in 2019 was initially considered, following in this recommendations made at the 15th meeting of the EABRN. Unfortunately, the representatives of DPRK informed the Secretariat in Spring 2019 that they were not in position to host the meeting, and that therefore we had to go for the alternative solution already suggested at the 15th EABRN Meeting in Almaty where Mongolia had offer to serve as alternate host for the meeting in the event that DPRK would not be able to organize the event.

Such meeting should have been held in Spring 2020, and the Secretariat had already started to work with the Mongolian MAB National Committee, supported by the Mongolian National Commission for UNESCO, in order to identify the most probable dates of the meeting (spring 2022) as well as defining details such as the provisional budget and the destination for the usual field visit at one existing or near-to-be established Biosphere Reserve in the host countries.

Because of COVID-19, the meeting could not be held as foreseen and was postponed to Spring 2022. Details are to be shared with EABRN members in the beginning of 2022, at the invitation of the Mongolian MAB NC and National Commission for UNESCO.
